Archery Merit Badge

To obtain this merit badge, the scout must learn and demonstrate range safety rules, the parts of an arrow, how to properly care for archery equipment, scoring of targets, use and care of bows, and meet the shooting requirements. Archery equipment will be provided. Class will be taught by a certified merit badge counselor.

Personal Fitness Merit Badge

The Personal Fitness Merit Badge will help the Scout learn the importance of being fit in the components of good nutrition, weight control, preventative habits (such as exercising regularly), which are vital in maintaining good health.  An comprehensive 12-week physical fitness program will be established, using the results of fitness tests.  The program will incorporate endurance, intensity, and warm-up guidelines.  Instructor will follow-up with student 6 weeks into the program to encourage completion of merit badge.  At the end of 12 weeks, class will meet again to repeat the three tests, and to discuss the meaning and benefit of their experience and their long-term plan for personal fitness.
**A Physical and Dental Exam must be completed before taking this class.  Please bring a statement to showing this has been done.

Rifle Shooting Merit Badge

The Orem Fitness Center is excited to offer the Boy Scout Rifle Shooting merit badge. To obtain this merit badge, the scout must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safe gun handling, the fundamentals of rifle shooting, and proper gun cleaning techniques. Scout must be accompanied by an adult and will be required to provide their own rifle and 50 rounds of .22 Cal. ammunition. All firearms must be transported in and out of the Orem Fitness Center in gun cases. There are a limited number of rifles available for rent. Classes will be taught by a certified merit badge counselor.

Swimming Merit Badge

Summer Camp isn't the only place for boys to get that swimming merit badge!! The Orem Fitness Center offers an opportunity for scouts to earn merit badges associated with swimming and safety all year round. Three merit badges will be offered-- Scout Swimming, Scout Lifesaving, and First Aid. Boys may sign up for ONLY one merit badge per day. Boys must come to each class already having completed class prerequisites. Swimming Merit Badge prerequisites include: Successful completion of Second class rank requirements 7a-7c, and First Class rank requirements 9a-9c. Basic swimming skills will not be taught. Merit badge classes are taught by Boy Scout approved Merit Badge Counselors. For more information, call Chad Barth at 229-7159.
